The further South you go the cheaper I presume. Also, avoid buildings with lakeviews (those are beautiful but always pricier).

Things are topsy turvy. Established places spiked in value near Michael Reese, with speculation about the Olympics. Stuff in China town has pert stable. The newer buildings just north of there are some the most distressed. Find the right one and you will luck into quite deal...

My wife just got into the Grad program at Columbia and we are moving out from LA in the next month and a half. We are currently looking in the Lakeview & Wriggleyville areas. They are nice areas with great public transportation, which is something new to us.

I don't know how in touch you are with the south loop realty situation but people who own rental units down there are having a VERY hard time filling them. Here's a 1 bdrm in a south loop highrise for 1100, includes heat and parking...

2605 S. Indiana? Of course it is cheap, it's not South Loop. By the most generous boundaries, South Loop extends to Cermak. That address would be Bronzeville or Douglas.

2605 S. Indiana is in the Douglas community area, not the Near South. Bronzeville probably.

Well, the OP did say specifically "near" South Loop. It is "near" South Loop.
