To answer the OP's post:

That area of Rogers Park is certainly not the greatest, but you are fine parking your car on howard and going to that restaurant during the day. Depending on your comfort level you may be a bit leary at night.

That said, I used to ride my bike through there at night quite a bit and had no issue.

Agreed - it can be a bit sketchy, but is generally safe. Just follow general city safety rules - don't wear a mink coat and a Rolex, and don't leave your iPod on the dash.

I second that - I cycle through that area even in the evening. its not great - but you won't feel threatened.

Uncle Joe's on the South Side is the best I ever had. They have 5 locations on the south side, but the one I frequent the most is the one on 82nd & Cottage Grove. You will not be disappointed trust me.
