Does anyone know of any restaurants (besides fast food places) that are open on Christmas Day? I know that a lot of Chinese restaurants are open, but I'd rather not go to one. I'm especially looking for places on the north or northwest side.

Most hotel restaurants will be open. A few years ago I spent a nice Christmas dinner at Osteria via Stato on the corner of State and Ontario.

All 12/25 diners should check w/ establishments prior to the day - I played this game a few years ago, being told "lots of downtown places are open"....my yuletide dinner consisted of bologna and pringles from the white hen.

I doubt very much a significant portion of downtown restaurants are open on Christmas day, much less "all" of them.

As mentioned, grab some Indo-Pak food up on Devon Avenue. Most places up there don't care much about Christmas and neither does their primary clientele (which is to say, "not Westerners"). So they'll still have plenty enough business to justify keeping their doors open.

There is an excellent chance Golden Nugget is open. There are several locations. Google it. Call and ask.

I got this just by Googling "Chicago Restaurants Open on Christmas 2010".
