There are two nights of the year I will never go to a bar - New Years Eve and St. Patrick's Day. Too many goddamn amateurs.

That said - how far off Michigan are you willing to walk? There are loads of good cheap places nearby, just not right on Michigan. The suggestion of Monk's is a good one, The Shamrock Club on Kinzie (just West of Wells) and the Boss Bar on Clark (just South of Hubbard) are worth checking out as well.

Yeah, Rossi's, and there's also Snickers. I was thinking of places just a block or so off N. Michigan though, not River North.

I'd suggest Billy Goat's on Lower Michigan right about underneath the Wrigley Building and near the river. A nice dive without the fights or intimidation of strangers. There are tourists, writers and barflies in a place where the prices are reasonable.

Planning on staying off of East OH St, and either hoofing it or using public transit. I've never been to the city, but I'd imagine that walking wouldn't be so bad...

Off topic: I'll be driving more than likely, and it seems like parking will be around $40/night for the hotel. I can leave my car at Rosemont CTA for a cheaper price (according to other posts on here that briefly mentioned it), but is it safe?

Yes, you can.. I've never had any issues with leaving my car overnight at Rosemont and then traveling down to the city in the evening. As long as you pay,or don't travel late at night on blue line, you're fine.

Yeah, but you can't pay for more than 24 hours at a time.

There are tons of dive bars down here. If you're looking for a real trashy dive bar experience I would suggest Rossi's or Snicker's.

If you're a raging alcoholic looking to hang out with total weirdos try Mike's Fast Food. I mean...this is one of those places that's such a dive it's not "cute" or "fun." I don't even know what it is or who goes there. But there are people drinking there when I pass it on the way to work in the morning. I don't know anyone who's ever gone there.
