I'll be relocating in a few weeks, and am looking at rooms. What do you experts think of the area near Ashland and Albion, and walking to the Loyola stop?

Thanks

Personally, I'd be just fine with it except late at night. The Loyola stop is pretty safe in my opinion. The walk from Loyola to Ashland and Albion can be a bit isolated when it is late. Not heavy foot traffic on the streets. However, it is very populated in terms of lots of apartment buildings and houses.

I agree with soulful. However, where are you relocating from? If from another urban area, you'll be find. If from a suburb or rural area, you may find it to be a bit scary. It's about a 10 minute walk from there to the Loyola stop. Parking is really tight, so keep that in mind if you also have a car. It's a very diverse neighborhood, ethnically, socially, economically. There is some gang activity in the area but they very rarely, if ever, bother anyone other than rival gangbangers. Police station is very close by so CPD patrols the neighborhood frequently, as does Loyola University's private police/security. Lots of college kids in the area. Neighborhood's got everything one would need. In the summer, it's a nice 10-12 minute walk to a very nice beach.

Walk down Devon Ave., then over to Albion at Ashland if you're overly concerned late-night.

I was briefly seeing someone who lived in that area. Driving down Ashland is okay. It's pretty dimly lit at night, so that is something to consider when walking to the Loyola station. The station is fine, lots of foot traffic from the university students.

There is always some questionable activity on Pratt and Ashland, and there are police monitors at that corner as well.

I agree it is diverse ethnically, socially, economically which means you have to watch it.... It is an improving area though, The area just south Devon of Clark especially...
ANd having the Police station right by there is helpful.

Pratt/Ashland is just something to watch out for because thats
where the GDs/LKs clash, Ashland is the dividing line between their two turfs. Overall still a decent area, and I find myself more comfortable there than say Pilsen or Humbodlt Park for sure.
