Hello, I am a 21 year old female UIC student and have been offered a room at an apartment in Bridgeport. < near Archer and Loomis> I previously lived at Western (congress and oakley) and that was a horrible, unsafe experience where my car's window was broken 2 times and my apartment was broken into. I am not as naive anymore and I'm scared to end up in a "bad" neighborhood again. Can anyone please tell me if bridgeport <archer and loomis> is a safe area for a young cute blonde girl and her car?! Thanks so much!

I don't know much about that area, but look up the crime stats for a general picture (yes, I know there are problems with the stats, but it's a starting point!)

Bridgeport is generally a decent area, but for some reason that little triangle of diagonal streets between Archer and 31st seems to be a bit of a trouble spot. It's still probably better than where you were before. So far this year within that triangle area there have been 4 robberies -- two strong-arm, one by handgun, one with an unspecified weapon. There have also been three murders in that triangle area in the last 13 months. Something is going on over there.

not so safe, as Drover already mentioned the crimes in that area. I've been passing through there one afternoon with a client and I didn't feel safe at all.

I don't mess with Bridgeport. I'm black and I've heard almost since the day that I got here that Bridgeport was a really racist community and unsafe for blacks, with anecedotal evidence to back it up (if that counts for anything).

Personally if I hear enough people of my color tell me that it's unsafe for "us" to venture into a certain community, I don't go there, I don't want to take the risk. The ironic thing is that I used to live in Bronzeville which is right across the Dan Ryan from Bridgeport. Many in the neighborhood referred to the Dan Ryan as the "Berlin Wall", dividing Bridgeport from Bronzeville, black from white. The Dan Ryan actually resembles the Berlin Wall in a strange way too because it's a huge expressway with a train line (the Red Line) running in the middle. So with that being said, that has stuck with me almost since the day I moved to this city. I don't go on "their" side of the Berlin Wall.

Hi Ajdreams

I lived a block from there for more than 20 years and ofcourse seen Bridgeport change. I live at Archer and Haynes ct...thats one block west of Loomis...thats a quiet area..nothing like Pilsen....nothing at all like it. my friend Henry owns that Store on the corner..he's been there for about 40 years... the bar on the corner "Bridgeport in" is alright if your older.

Rent around there is cheap. on my block it's about $600.00

Let me know if there's anything else I can answer.

Yeah, great area over there. Didn't they just find the body of a strangled woman over by Eleanor and Loomis about two weeks ago? That'd make 4 murders in just over a year in that little section of diagonal streets. It may be mostly quiet, but something's going on over in that section over and above the normal "background noise" of crime that exists in any otherwise quiet Chicago neighborhood.

man if there are any codependents out there the rescue harmones have got to be racing. put on that white armor and jump on that white horse.
you may be cute and blonde but i bet you are more than smart enough to figure this one out really well.
talk to another cute blond from that area and they will be your best source, or the southern solution a big mean dog or a big mean boyfriend that looks like a dog or a big mean shotgun which is a lot meaner than any boyfriend and a lot less trouble also required less feeding than the mean dog or mean boyfriend. does that help?
