The Clergy is attempting to quell the uptick in Chicago (neighborhoods, tax)

I am surprised the religious leaders have not already attempted to do the following, came as a surprise.

You guys are completely missing what's going on here. The Nation Of Islam has started walking the streets once a week (on Mondays) in a "take back the streets" type of thing. This is a direct response to that. These guys don't want to be seen as sitting on the sidelines while Farrakhan is doing something to try and cut down the number of shootings. It's driven by PR considerations, but hopefully it can have a good effect.

On a side note - Right now June and July homicides in Chicago are right around where they've been for the last few years. When you see reports like "homicides up 30% this year" don't forget that homicides were up by 60% in March/April, and have leveled off to recent historical norms since then. We may actually finish July with lower homicide numbers for the month than we've seen in years.

These same posters who are writing negative post probably don't have any better suggestions nor will they get out there themselves. I take their posts like a grain of salt.

I really don't have any suggestions because my neighborhood isn't shooting each other up and treating its neighbors like the OK Corral. My neighbors have BBQ's, trade waves as we come and go to work, water our dying grass and laugh with the children as they run and play outside. There's no gunfire, drivebys or Crack being sold on the corner. But for the neighborhoods where violence is common place, yes the good law abiding citizens should be out there taking it back and running the thugs out of town.

That's great. Don't criticise other neighborhoods trying to find solutions to their problems. My neighborhood doesn't have those problems either but there are many other problems that the residents don't deal with.
