Hi guys! I love this forum!

I ll be brief…

I am a foreigner living in chicago (just got here 2 months ago), I plan on going to visit NY on August…

What d’ be the cheapest way to get there from Chicago? I thought of trains, but seems to be a long trip… The only restriction is that, I should be picking up someone @ Newark airport on sat 8/2 @ 10am… So I guess I should be arriving to any of NY airports between 1am to 9am of the said day.

Where can I find the best deals on planes?? trains?

ps: someone may ask why I dont post this on NY forum, lol, to be honest, Chicago people is the coolest!

The cheapest is probably Megabus at $30 but it's a 16 hour ride.

For about $120 you can usually get from Midway to EWR on Southwest non stop in under 2 hours and they have at least 4 flights per day.

How much luggage will you be traveling with? Logistically speaking your best bet is to fly directly into Newark (EWR). Like the other poster said, I would check with Southwest. But also check other major airlines such as United Airlines since both O'Hare & Newark are hubs for United. If you find a much better deal into another NY area airport, factor in an extra cost for taking a couple trains to reach Newark.

The actual flight time is generally quite fast and almost can feel like a commuter flight. Although it's often published at 2 hours, I've often seen that the flight sometimes only takes about 1.5 hours in the air depending on weather conditions for the day.

If you're on a budget: SOUTHWEST Airlines from Chicago-Midway (MDW) to Newark (EWR) or LaGuardia (LGA). Multiple flights per day, free rescheduling, great credit card, and really affordable ($150-180 round trip).

If you're into snacks: JETBLUE Airlines from O'Hare (ORD) to NYC-JFK. It takes awhile to get to Manhattan from JFK, however.

If you're into Delta: DELTA Airlines runs a shuttle from O'Hare (ORD) to LaGuardia (LGA) hourly. I love this option, because I can show up @ O'Hare or LGA and hop on any plane I want, when I want. Prices vary, but you can generally find good deals.

Try Kayak, Orbitz, or... typing "Chicago NYC flights" into a search engine called 'google.'

Actually, Hipmunk is the best flight search engine now.

Southwest isn't on any of the search engines and they will have the best price for this particular flight.

>How can I go on a saturday at 11am from Newark to manhattan? and Monday 11pm from Midway to Lakeview.

Newark to Manhattan. Take a shuttle bus to the NJ Transit Newark station, then a (very cheap and very fast) regular train to Penn Station. DO NOT GO TO THE NEWARK *AIRPORT* TRAIN STATION, THERE ARE NO TRAINS - temporarily closed for construction.

Midway to Lakeview. Orange Line, then switch to Red or Brown line. (I don't remember the exact transfer point, but it's in the Loop.) This is a reasonably safe trip even late at night, but use normal precautions.

This, but then also check Southwest.com because they won't appear on Kayak and sometimes have nice rates. There's even $75 flights on Southwest right now ($150/RT) for June Chicago -> NYC
