My friends and i are coming to Chicago for St. Pattys weekend. We will arrive Friday around noon and leaving Sunday afternoon. We are looking for suggestions on awesome places to eat. Friday, we want to get dressed up and go to a nice dinner. Any suggestions on that topic? Maybe $20-30/person? On Sunday we plan on doing the Skywalk first thing in the morning then heading to a nice rooftop brunch. We are staying on South Shore so anywhere downtown or south is best since we are using transit. However for brunch it wouldn't matter since we are leaving that day and will be driving. thanks for any tips. PS we plan on trying chicago food (deep dish pizza, hot dogs) for lunch. Id love your favorites on those topics too! Thanks from a fellow foodie! Any secret tips on your city would also be appreciated!

For the $20-$30/dinner thing I hope you're talking about before drinks. $20-$30 for dinner in Chicago for dinner isn't anything to get dressed up for usually but there's a lot of good restaurants downtown and other parts of town in that realm that are pretty nice. What kind of food are you looking for?

Also, you're staying in South Shore or staying in the south part of downtown? There's a huge difference.

Giordano's for the stuffed pizza.

You don't need to get dressed up, but if you can get into Frontera Grill for dinner go there.

Go to the Hancock Tower's 94th floor for a drink. The view is amazing, and instead of paying admission, you pay for a drink.

100% agree. Best views in the city - if I were you, I'd try and plan it so you get there a little before sunset so you can see a lot of different light. Make sure to go when there's no clouds or not a lot if possible. The views for both north and south of the city are awesome. I've grown to really love the view of the lakefront looking north with Lincoln Park in view.

Carmine's on Rush St. is a great Italian restaurant in the Gold Coast. You're looking at about $18-32 per person for their regular menu entrées. That of course doesn't include a drink.

Grand Lux Cafe on Ontario St. off Michigan Ave. is slightly cheaper, but the atmosphere and quality is comparable. They serve a wide variety of European foods, not just Italian.

Cafe Iberico on LaSalle and Chicago is a Spanish restaurant. They are known for their tapas. Three of them would run you about $20-25.

The only restaurant above I'd recommend is Cafe Iberico. There's far better restaurants downtown than Carmine's and Grand Lux Cafe at the price point the OP is looking for.

Just be prepared to wait a long time. I tried going there last fall and waited for what seemed like forever only to find out the line was just a line to wait in an even longer line.

I like to go right when it opens, I think at 11:00 AM. If you get in line by 10:45 you can get a really nice spot right away.
