So I recently found out that a multi-unit home on a residential street in my neighborhood is now a Halfway House.

I mostly dislike the operation as they don't shovel (and to be fair, the prior owners/tenants didn't either), but does anyone have handy any resources regarding what rules of the road the property owner should have followed before this could open?

Assuming that it's alcohol/drug related, it's important to distinguish as to whether it is a halfway house or a
sober living unit. Halfway houses provide treatment and counseling on site, so they are regulated. Sober living houses usually provide no real services other than living quarters for people recently released from treatment.

I can't tell you what the permiting requirements (if any), might be. They're a lot of them around, both in the city and subsurbs.

It's for ex-cons. I only know about it as one of my neighbors complained about the residents smoking dope on the porch at 8 am a few weeks ago.

And I'm not a hater, but I am curious if they are following the laws/regulations, as this is pretty close to a school and on a residential street.
