I know this sounds like a stupid question, but does it mean 2 inches on the street, or 2 inches on the ground? LOL.. I was looking for parking space the other day and there was no snow on the street but there was a foot high of snow on the grass. I had to think for a minute.

i'm guessing its 2 inches anywhere,, but can you clarify this?

It means 2 inches anywhere in the Chicagoland area. If you're downtown and there's no snow but it snowed 2 inches at OHare, don't be surprised if the tow truck driver uses that as the 'official' Chicago snow total to justify towing your car.

When will people learn? You will NEVER win a towing or ticket dispute. EVER.

Here's the municipal code section:

Quote:
9-64-070 Parking on snow routes.
It shall be unlawful to park any vehicle for a period of time longer than three minutes for the loading and unloading of passengers or 30 minutes for the loading, unloading, pick-up or delivery of materials from commercial vehicles, whether such location has been designated as a loading zone or not, on any street that has been designated by appropriate signs as a “Snow Route” at any time the snow on the street exceeds two inches in depth and until the snow stops falling and for the necessary period of time until all snow removal operations have been completed.
So, it's snow on the street.

ah good! I was concerned last weekend when the streets were plowed but there was snow on the ground,, I was afraid to park there because I didn't want to get a ticket or towed.

lenniel - the guy below your post says its only on the street.

but your right about the tow trucks using any kind of reason because each car they tow is more money in their pocket.

I guess I have not had to go out much in winter with my car which is ironic because it was just the other day i thought about that no parking sign.
