I will start new job in downtown (near water tower) and my wife works in hospital in Maywood (10 mile west, off I290 on 1st ave). no kids. Would like to know where is a good place to live concerning convenience for commute and safty? Both will be driving and have parking for work. Looking for a 2-br <1000$ in a safe neighborhood.

Clearing is about a 15 minute drive to Maywood and is located on far SW side of Chicago just inside the city limits. It was a neighborhood built mostly in the fifties to accomodate the former ww2 vets coming back from military duty. They are unspectacular houses (some decribe as saltine boxes) but solidly built and the neighborhood has a ton of city employees living here (ie. Police. fire etc). My block has three cops and two fireman on it.
