Seems like this is part of the problem in Chicago, that a large number of people are in complete denial of what is going on or choose not to confront the problem. Mod cut.

Hopefully people in Chicago will wake up before it's too late and you're staring at NYC of the 1970's or even worse, modern day Detroit

2016 Deadliest

Chicago's crime needs to be addressed, but much easier said than done. NYC employed outright unconstitutional laws to crack down on crime. It was a different time then and Chicago PD and officials would be crucified if trying something similar in today's political climate. It's hyperbole to compare Chicago to Detroit. They're totally different places with totally different circumstances.

The truth of the matter is Chicago is safe outside the confines of the neighborhoods that have fallen the furthest since the days of white flight and mass deindustrialization. Chicago60614 made a great post about this the other day.

Most Chicagoans aren't confronted daily, weekly, or even monthly with the reality of this "other Chicago" and thus it's easy for people to ignore it. I don't even personally know anyone who has even been mugged. A lot of it is just the culture of these communities. For whatever reasons, black Americans tend to place less emphasis on schooling and education and families are more often broken than other racial groups. That makes it difficult for young black men specifically to figure out how to "make it" in this world. That causes them to turn to street gangs where they then commit these murders over twitter beefs and made up turf wars. There are so many contributing factors that it is literally impossible to pinpoint one reason that the black community in Chicago and the U.S. as a whole is so disadvantaged. The U.S. has acted pretty ****ty towards black people and the consequences are clearly visible to this day.

99% of the people who post on this forum (including myself) live on the north side or in the loop so why on earth would any of you be impacted by the Chicago violence?

These smokescreens are SOOOOOOO pathetic. Incredibly transparent, and I feel sorry that your life is this empty.

From what I've read here, I think the mods do have a point when they say this about crime threads:

They inevitably degenerate into personal attacks and/or racist remarks and/or bickering; you name it. They serve no good purpose for this forum.

Too many times people just can't talk about crime without getting nasty about it. Especially with this topic, people post things they wouldn't dare say to someone face-to-face. And if you wouldn't tolerate it in person, why should you tolerate it online?

Why should we worry? Most people I know live on the North side, near west side or downtown and those areas are safe. The crime is in parts of the south side which has always been the case. So who cares. Unlike Detroit and NYC where crime is all over including the so-called good areas

Not that often. They do occasionally after mass shootings.
