A new report from AT Kearney, a global business-consulting firm, ranks 128 cities based on their projected levels of importance and competitiveness in the future. Chicago IN THE TOP 25 LISTED HERE.

https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2017/...of-the-future/

It says of Chicago.... ranking it #15:

Like Los Angeles and Toronto, Chicago has the potential to become a future tech hub. The third most populous city in the US has seen increases in private investments and entrepreneurship in recent years. Chicago hosts a whopping 12 Fortune Global 500 companies, including Boeing, United Continental, the Kraft Heinz Company, and the troubled retailer Sears.

Only American cities higher then #15 Chicago are #8 Houston, #5 Boston, #2 NYC and #1 SF.

LA was #25. So STILL A RESPECTABLE FUTURE SEEN for the "Windy City" ..... despite doomsayers. Maybe some still are far more pessimistic? Well I know a couple who are. LOL. But this IS A WORLD RANKING FOR THE FUTURE.

I know many will cite debt and political stalemate? But we are TAKING FUTURE PERPORMANCE to.
So unleash your comments of opinion on this rank and agree or disagree as a respectable far more BULLISH then not? Or BS and the city won't maintain this level?

A good marker of how Chicago is doing is real estate values. Our real estate is in the pits and hasn't recovered since the crash.

I don't think that's 100% true. Some neighborhoods are doing well, while others are not.

Within the metro area, Chicago's housing market is doing best generally.

IMO that's only because housing prices got way too overinflated during the real estate bubble. And way too many condo conversions.

Chicago has been blessed with two major airline hubs, navigable waterways, good rapid transit, commuter rail, universities, and somewhat reasonably priced housing. Now if we could only get the politicians in our State to work effectively we might have something.

This is patently false.

Industrial vacancy is at a 15 year low.

REVPAR for hotels is the highest it's ever been.

Commercial rents are the highest they've ever been.

Downtown apartment rents are the highest they've ever been.

Whether Englewood or Austin, or even Belmont-Cragin, for that matter, have good real estate pricing is largely irrelevant to discussions of Chicago's economic health.

Good, I think housing prices are over inflated.

The only people who benefit from over inflated real estate prices are realtors, banks, and sellers, everyone else gets screwed.
