Hi all! Hoping for some help...my fiance and I are moving to Chicago for new jobs (both at Illinois Masonic). We would like an apartment nearby (ideally in walking distance), however, due to job constraints here in New York City, we are unable to come to the city to check things out. I would hate to commit to an apartment going in totally blind! Hope you all can help!

I'd suggest the strech of Broadway St in between Belmont Ave and Diversey Pkwy in East Lakeview. Specifically off of Barry Ave or Wellington Ave since the hospital is on the same street about 4-5 blocks down. A friend of mine lived there, awesome little area with lots of neat shops, restaurants, bars, a Borders bookstore, a health club, movie theatre, cafes and coffee houses make up Broadway. Last i checked a one bedroom there was about a grand per month off of craigslist. I also wouldn't recommend bringing a car out there since parking is horrendous. Good luck!

So stay in a corporate housing unit or a Microtel-type place when you get here while you look for a place.

Try Google for corporate housing or suite hotels. I already named one such chain by name.

If you use movers, they will store your stuff until you find a place.
