They are in different neighborhoods. 405 Wabash is technically River North, and 1150 N Lake Shore is Gold Coast. Remember, Gold Coast and Lincoln Park are the top 2 most affluent neighborhoods in Chicago. Also Lakeshore address allows you quick beach access, killer view of Lake Michigan, beach, jogging/biking/roller blading trails. For me, if the condition of the two are similiar, it is a no brainer to go with Lake Shore Dr

Default Viagra triangle

Well, Viagra triangle is another name for Gold Coast for some because of wealthy men courting young ladies. IMO, theres nothing bad about it.
Gold Coast means affluence, shopping, and prestige. River north is still yet to catch up.
Lakeshore vs Wabash? It's like Manhattan vs. Brooklyn. I'd live in Manhattan in a heart beat.

Of course with the Division address you are a bit closer to the lake and the beach, but you are also very close to the schlock bars on Division and the Viagra triangle.

You can easily get to the lake and the beach from 405 N. Wabash without having to deal with the crap on Division and on Rush...

The ages of the people that live around the Wabash address is more varied than the Division (many older people) address.

The Viagra Triangle does not take up the entire Gold Coast area even though there are plenty of old farts and aging 40-50 somethings in the Gold Coast also...

The OP makes 60 grand a year I think-he cant possibly compete with the wealthy old farts in the Gold Coast so why would he want to live there? Why would he want those bimbos that hang out there anyway?

The women in the Gold Coast will have him eating Ramen noodles in no time.

It is far easier to get women in the River North area...

well, OP never says hes into chicks. So never make any assumptions.

Botttomline is Gold Coast is a more affluent neighborhood and the lake shore address in a solid gold coast address that is far more prestigious than river north

60k a year in the Gold Coast is not really "affluent."
Besides there still are a few gay places in River North where the OP could feel comfortable if that is what he likes. I know of none in the Gold Coast.

60k a year in gold coast is far from affluent. But that is not my point.

My point is that gold coast is an affluent neighborhood and more so than river north. The adjusted gross income for gold coast (60610) per capita is somewhere in the $140k range, slightly lower than Lincoln Park.

I actually think there is more crime in Gold Coast in particular certainly around and on Division.

What is the point of living in a more affluent area like Gold Coast versus River North if you cannot fully experience all that it has to offer because you are not from old money? Convince him and I there is a solid reason for moving to Gold Coast other than the slightly closer proximity to the Lake (and beach),and a more "prestigious" address.

I do not think you mean "old money" so much as just lots of disposable income. Not as though there are too many exclusive country clubs in either River North or Gold Coast...

Don't discount the NU and Loyola crowds either -- law and medical schools people do go out too.

Arguably I would suggest that that one could get by w/o a car pretty well in either area, but as odds are higher that you could hit a grocery ever day on your way up / down in Gold Coast it is more of the "don't even have a license" type area...
