We have a 100 pound labrador and have never had any problems. Chicago is very pet friendly if you can find an apartment that allows dogs. Lots of parks and beaches. There are also lots of good vets, playcare places, and boarding places. We walk almost everyday on LSD, and around the streeterville area. Just carry around a poop bag and you'll be fine (for you dog of course).

There are plenty of theatre and bar/club events especially geared towards dogs and cats. The fact pets are allowed to drive cars and operate heavy machinery also puts Chicago pretty high up on the "pet friendly" list.

My cat works downtown in a law office answering phones 3 times a week, and my best friends dog have been delivering mail for about 9 years now. He's gearing up for retirement in the next 6 months or so, I was actually just helping to plan the party last night.

Or if you're one of those chicks that has a purse dog. They pretty much are allowed even in the most upscale of places.

As a city dweller who is sick and tired of navigating doggie land mines on the sidewalks, PLEASE pick up the poop!!! That goes for everyone reading this. It's sickening how lazy some people are.

Can't you reach the poop fairy by calling 311?

Don't think so. Although 311 is great to get graffiti off your garage, I don't think they hustle the city picking up the dog poop left by idiots.
