I'm moving to Chicago to attend Kendall college this fall. I've been focusing my apartment search in areas that I've visited and liked, or heard are good for 20-somethings (wicker park/bucktown, lincoln park, lakeview, wrigleyville).

Where should I be looking in order to easily get back and forth to Kendall (900 N. Branch St.) every day? I'd like to live in a place with people my age (I'm 26) and plenty going on (some good bars, restaurants, etc.). I'll have a car but don't know if it will be easier to drive or take public transit. Any advice?

Thanks.
-Laura

I'd say anywhere close to Chicago Ave or Halsted. Both major bus lines that run frequently and will get you very close to Kendall college. Halsted has a stop right in front of it.

Along with surlycue's suggestion's (which will be more affordable) you could also consider Lincoln Park and Lakeview.

The no. 8 bus is a nightmare though. It takes a century to get anywhere.

I take it almost everyday. From LP to Union Station (includes some walking) takes me less than a 1/2 hour most days but I'm up early. It's slow through Greektown at times and can get jammed up by Fullerton but it's pretty quick really IMHO.
