I just ordered my tickets and here are the hidden taxes and "fees" they snuck up on me at the payment page...

Amusement Tax-SP Chgo/Mystic (3.15%):
Taxes-SP Chgo/Mystic Other (10.25%):
Taxes-SP Chgo/Mystic Tickets (3.45%):
Taxes-SP Chgo/Mystic F&B (11.50%):
Amusement Tax - SP Chgo/Mystic OTHER (4.50%):
Fees-SP Chgo/Mystic Fuel Surcharge (3.00%):
Fees-SP Chgo/Mystic Tickets (8.40%):
Fees-SP Chgo/Mystic Other (4.75%):
Fees-SP Chgo/Mystic F&B (3.50%):
Administrative Fees - SP Chgo/Mystic (18.00%):
Total Taxes and fees 70.5 %!!!

Ok first off, I know the city taxes the hell out of touristy things in Chicago. I expected that. But take a look at the fees...

Fuel Surchage 3.00%? OK, the taxi's could do it but prices have dropped there shouldn't be a 3% surcharge.

Tickets 8.4%? I ordered these tickets directly online (not through a service like Ticketmaster) and they don't even send you the tickets, you just show them your ID when you get there!

Other 4.75%? What haven't you charged for already?

Food & Beverage 3.5%? It says food is included in the price of the ticket. Why am I getting charged twice for this. Why don't they just raise the price 3.5% instead of lying to you?!

Administrative fees 18.00%!!!!???!!!! Are you kidding me?! You just robbed me for things I already paid for and charged me for services you don't offer. How could Oddysey be so inefficent at running a company that justifies an additional 18% admin fee to run a company?! And what did the "other" fees cover again?!!

Talk about being taken for a ride....

Hmmm. I have never heard of these fees before.

When I have looked into buying tickets for this kind of stuff I go to the discount sites where you can get them like 50% off.

I saw them on halfoffdeals.com a while ago be don't appear to be offered right now. But these "deals" would explain a lot. Your not getting half off when they charge you for it in extra fees.

This is what I just pulled up on the Mystic website:

Eve of the Eve Cruise - December 30, 2009
Boarding: 7:00 pm
Cruising: 8:00pm - 10:00pm
Dockside: Until 11:00pm
Price: $49.90 per person*

Adult Holiday Dinner Ticket 1 $49.90 $49.90
Subtotal: $49.90
Amusement Tax-SP Chgo/Mystic (3.15%): $1.57
Taxes-SP Chgo/Mystic Tickets (3.45%): $1.72
Fees-SP Chgo/Mystic Fuel Surcharge (3.00%): $1.50
Fees-SP Chgo/Mystic Tickets (8.40%): $4.19
Administrative Fees - SP Chgo/Mystic (18.00%): $8.98
Total Charge: $67.86

======================================
That is hardly 70.5% total taxes and fees.

I am kinda confused by your post.

Wow this is really shady. I just went back to the website and tried again. I got the same thing you recieved. They then require you to enter your personal information. Notice they don't require credit card number yet. At this point you think this is the payment page, it's not is the "register as a user" page. The following page they sneak in the rest of the charges. Everything I selected above was a direct copy and paste from my confirmation page except I summed up the total percentages and typed in 70.5%.

Next time shop around more. I find it hard to believe the fees and taxes you mentioned though. If it is true you should file a complaint with the city.
