Heck, married priests were quite legal in the Catholic church until two lateran councils in the 12th century settled the matter.

Now, does this mean all Catholic priests are potential child molesters? No way. The offenders are a tiny proportion of all priests. At the same time, the church's refusal to allow married priests creates this problem, as well as its chronic shortage of clergy.
I agree.

More over, marriage is not the only requirement that God has given us for selecting ministers.

No novices are to be selected either. Every time that a young man is selected for training /grooming the entire congregation is put to risk.

The requirement that men have raised children, so the entire congregation can see how those children were raised, how they turned out as adults, is a HUGE criteria.

Ignore God's criteria and you put the congregation at risk.

Violate God's commandments and your in sin.

They just don't get it

At least 37 priests accused of molestation and other inappropriate behavior toward children have been allowed to remain in active ministry in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
During Mass in a Catholic church in the northeast area of the city following the release of a grand jury report and the arrest of several priests and a teacher for alleged abuse, a priest criticized recent media coverage and the district attorney.

The catholic church is under attack in Australia....

Those who state that there are opportunistic evil men everywhere, and the church are not at fault are delusional. These disgusting criminals have been moved around, and around with new opportunities to be a predator at a new school, hospitals etc.

List grows of abusers moved from parish to parish

Pell urged to close order over abuses

Fraser joins call for royal inquiry into church abuse

^^ and they're just the headlines today

I am sure a royal commission will commence, and once that does....the floodgates will really be opened. Good.

I believe it was Nietzsche who said there was only one true Christian and he died on the cross!

Sex scandals are not unique to Catholicism. Other denominations are slowly outing their offenders.

According to a Christian Science Monitor report in 2002: "Despite headlines focusing on the priest pedophile problem in the Roman Catholic Church, most American churches being hit with child sexual-abuse allegations are Protestant, and most of the alleged abusers are not clergy or staff, but church volunteers."
SOURCE

It may be more prevalent in Catholicism simply because it is the largest Christian Denomination

You realize Catholics constitute over 51% of all who call themselves Christian. If you eliminate them from Christianity, that would make Christianity the 4rd largest religion, not the largest as it now claims. The order would be. Islam, Catholicism, Hinduism, Christianity.

Unless you also eliminate Protestantism in which case Christianity would be the 5th Largest now if you eliminate the non-Trinitarian Christians you get reduced to much less, possibly making Christianity one of the world's smallest religions.

This is true, there are other organisations where sex offenders hide out.

What is reprehensible is that the catholic church actively hid and moved on these criminals.

Cardinal George Pell, recently state: "It wasnt just the Catholic Church that hoped (an abusive priest) would amend their conduct and find them a home somewhere else.... back in those days, they were entitled to think of pedophilia as simply a sin that you would repent of. They didn't realise that in the worst cases it was an addiction, a raging addiction"

This is simply disgusting. Really.... did they need to be taught that sexual abuse was wrong?? These people moralising and telling their congregatin on what is right and wrong?!
There was another report of a priest confessing 200 times! this was not reported because of the sacred nature of confession. Give me an effing break.

So the Royal Commission has been launched. This will investigate all institiutional abuse, not just the church. It will be thorough, and hopefully people will be brought to justice.

I agree with that. especially:

Hours of painful reading here, from the site above on Baptist collusion for their pedophile church-hoppers, sometimes reportedly vindicated and supported by the congregation [ He's okay now, he's "repented"].

But the whole world agrees, Catholic is the worst of this astounding, tragic church malignancy.

That is true.

But it may be the result of size and the percentage of pedophiles may not be much different from that found in other denominations. There are over 25,000 Christian denominations in the USA alone. Many of them smaller than the average Catholic Parish. Catholicism consists of over half of the world's Christians.

As of 2010 there were 412,236, Catholic Priests and 39,564 Deacons giving a world wide Catholic clergy of at least 450,000. SOURCE

The number of clergy alone is larger than most other Christian Denomination's.total membership. Even if the percentage of pedophiles is less than the average found in other denominations the number would probably still be larger than that in all other denominations combined.
