The issue in eternal salvation is faith in Jesus Christ. The moment a person simply personally believes in Jesus Christ as Savior he is born again and eternally secure.
The issue after salvation is spiritual growth. The key to the Christian life and spiritual growth is rebounding from sin. The moment a person believes in Christ he is filled with the Holy Spirit. But the first time the believer commits a sin after salvation he loses the filling of the Spirit and enters into a state of carnality. He is still saved but is under the control of his sin nature. But God has graciously provided the means of recovering the filling of the Spirit.
My original pastor/teacher, R. B. Thieme, JR. referred to the means of the recovery of the filling of the Spirit as the rebound technique. He wrote a book edited from his lectures and unpublished notes called
'Rebound & Keep Moving' which explains this simplest yet most incredible concept in the spiritual life which opens the door to the wonderful freedom the grace of God offers to every believer in Jesus Christ.
There is also an online presentation of that book. And so for the benefit of whoever may be interested, I wanted to provide a link to it.
