An idol is an idol in whatever form it takes.
"And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them." (Deuteronomy 29:17)
"And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk." (Revelation 9:20)
I"m a faithful Christian, who thinks that statue is really neat.
But if that thing was in the middle of a golf course during a lightning storm, I could be having the round of my life, I'd still run like hell.
Why do people here think the statue is an idol? Is not Christ also God?
Kind of that whole "graven image" thing, I believe.
