Respond to these threads:
1) Threads where folks have thought-out their points or questions and who are genuinely seeking input
2) Threads dealing with controversial questions where there is often a lot of confusion
3) Threads started by or posted on by Christians whom I have come to respect on this forum
4) Fresh threads with questions that haven't already been 'beaten to death'
5) Threads with OP's who seem genuinely open, vulnerable and seeking answers.
Avoid these threads:
1) Threads designed only to promote a biased 'agenda', instead of seeking truth.
2) Threads that only seek to attack and tear-down the Bible, Christianity and Faith
3) Threads that quickly morph into quip or blog responses, with little in-depth thought.
4) Threads with hundreds of responses presenting more possibilities than folks care to read.
5) Extremely long or convoluted OP posts with no focused points, conclusions or questions.
Usually the threads which have 6 or more tend to avoid ...Then the older one which may be years old I avoid most of the time ....Then some where the replies are complete in understanding and the discussions are short tend to avoid for respect of the great replies already put down .... Then for sure when people name others and talk behind their back I will avoid as this goes against the rules of City Data .....Then there is strange ideas which are alien to Christianity for lack of understanding tend to avoid
Mostly, I post on threads where I feel I may be able to contribute something of interest to someone, or help someone to see something from a different perspective. I almost always (I'm sure nobody's noticed this ), post on threads where Mormonism comes up. I hope people have also noticed, by the way, that I don't do so to proselytize, but to clear up misconceptions (and there are many!) about Mormon doctrine. I look for threads where people are genuinely seeking to have a dialogue instead of just to criticize and find fault with one another. These, I've found, are few and far between. Lastly, I tend to ignore threads where the OP begins with two or three dozen passages of scripture, with little commentary of his own. And most of the time, if the OP clearly just has an ax to grind, I just let those who want to get into it with him do so on their own.
I usually don't like to get involved in threads with mulitiple pages that have been going on and on.......unless I get in on them from the start.
I also tend to not post on some if the subject doesn't interest me, or if the OP is just looking to bloviate with a 2500 word essay and not actually discuss something.

What is your criteria?
It takes too much time to read and reply to every thread. Many threads I simply pass over without ever reading them. But when I see Biblical truth being attacked and contradicted on some thread which I have read, I will try to reply with the truth. I would therefore be inclined to reply to #2 under the second category. If someone has an honest question which I can answer, I will do so.
Numbers 3 and 5 under the second category are certainly not worth bothering with. It is necessary to pick and choose what to reply to, and not bother with the others.
Generally I reply to any thread that seems to be a topic I am interested in. Most of my posts are in the Religion Forums as I do seem to have interest in comparative religion. I feel to understand what a persons believes is a path to better understanding and opens the door for mutual tolerance. But I do tend to reply only to topics I am interested in. I read many more threads than I reply to.
My posts in the Christianity forum are a very small percentage of my total posts:

NO! I never woulda guessed, Katzpur. I enjoy your level-headed and informative input from the LDS POV, so please don't stop doing that, either.
I personally find only a limited number of threads on the Christianity forum interesting.
I avoid most threads wherein niggling over points of what I see as irrelevant doctrine are argued to death, although I don't begrudge the nigglers their niggling, if that's what they like to do. I don't.
I will not bother at all with posters who endlessly quote scripture in lieu of conversation with their own words. (I have the same issue with similar posters on the Islam forum who only quote passages from the Q'uran and seem unable to converse any other way.)
I do like it when someone posts a refreshing topic that hasn't been done to death before.

The #2 attack threads can go either way with me. Sometimes the same folks repeatedly attack the same Christian issues ... under different titles -- so, I tend to avoid those. However, if it is the first or second attack by an individual ... or if it looks like the person is 'spiritually young' or honestly confused, I don't consider them 'attacks' and will often respond.

I have to admit I too often get sucked into unprofitable questions/discussions when I should just follow the "avoid these threads" list which I agree with 100 percent. The Bible says those that are heretics after a couple times of warning and rebuke reject.
