When I was 22 I was at a formal company Christmas party...I had only started working at the company a month earlier and had not met any of the "big" guys yet. So I'm standing off to the side, totally bored and a bit buzzed and this guy comes over to say hi. He has on a tux with a red plaid bow tie...so I compliment him on not looking like the rest of the men there, whom were dressed just like the waiters...he laughed. There was a woman dancing and let's just say her dress was about 50lbs too tight on her...and she was dancing all out wild! So I said to this guy that some people really should be gifted mirrors from loved ones so they wouldn't go out of the house looking like that...again he laughed. So we people watched and commented for a bit more and then he asks what my name was, I introduced myself and where I worked...and then he introduced himself as the president of the company! After recovering from my totally red face, I told him "Well since the "good" first impression has flown out the window I guess I'll just be myself for the rest of the night." He mentored my career after that night and always made sure to socialize with me at events...everyone always wanted to know why and I never told.
At least, irish, the "lady in the tight dress" who you commented on didn't turn out to be his wife!!:

Does anyone let first impressions of someone dictate how they act toward a person?
Are first impressions usually accurate?
Have you ever met someone..and just felt "something is strange here?" I know lots of questions this morning..I just have a habit I guess of listening and watching how other people communicate or dont communicate..IS my first impression to someone else one that says "Im a happy person..there is something different about me" or is it.."dont mess with me cause im having a bad day"..and if it the latter..will it come back to haunt me in my job..or my witness? If Im rude to the girl/guy at the check out stand..who watching..Am I showing the love of Christ? Did I just show that person that its okay to be rude. obnoxious..and a Christian? Did I just cut the pastor of another church off..in traffic..will he remember me if I visit their church? What kind of impression do I leave?
I believe in the value of first impressions. The first impression we give of ourselves to others is not intended to encompass our entire being. It's simply to let others know what our best-foot-forward looks like. ;-)
