all because of some tree that was in the garden. that tree, if only it was not there. But, the plan of God was for adam to fall, so that Christ can abolish all that adam did.
I often hear this question: "If all will be saved, why did Jesus have to die?"
Why do you think He had to die if all will be saved?
I thought this would be a good topic for discussion. Let's keep it courteous.
"Atonement" is the key word. Bringing the new believer out of his normally relatively selfish world view into conformity with the love of God. It would be appropriate to mention that, while everyone believes that it took place, the mechanics involved are disputed and the currently most favored views, those formulated by Anselm and Calvin, are not really acceptable to a lot of us.
A little background reading might be appropriate: Atonement in Christianity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My personal views tend toward Christus Victor with the idea that it was to bring us to "life more abundant" now.
IMO, He had to die because man had convinced man by law that God required sacrifice in order to receive His love and favors.
He allowed His only begotten son to come in flesh and blood to teach and show us that he required nothing from us because His unconditional love requires nothing in order to receive it.
We killed the messenger, and were forgiven for that too. "Father forgive them, they know not what they have done"
The Old Testament law foreshadowed the ultimate sacrifice for sin, Jesus. Just as the sinner under the law had to approach God in a repentant or admittance and confession (see Lev. 5:5) and then the scrafice for that sin is acceptable to God and his sin's will be forgive him (see Lev. 6:7). So now that God has provided His own sacrifice for sin, much like He provided the sacrifice in place of Abrams son, by the shed blood of Jesus, we must repent and accept that atonement (at-one-ment with God) that God has offered us. Jesus died so that we could have the opportunity to have our sins forgiven.
And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." (Rev 7:10)
20:20 hindsight - they saw (or will see) that God took ownership of the sacrificial atonement - there is nothing good in Adam 1, and his righteousness (right, not his sin) is as filthy rags.
Do we need to accept His gift? You bet - will the earth see and believe?

As I see it too, Miss Blue. Jesus didn't have to die ... it was his life that was necessary for our salvation, and his resurrection assured us that death has no power.
