Jesus said, 'Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself'.
I am reading a book by Lion Uris called 'Trinity'. It reveils in great detail how horribly the Irish natives were treated by the British noblemen and the protestants in your homeland and why so many of your ancestors came to America. I always wonder what Jesus would say, when he instructed us to 'Love thy neighbor as thyself'. Even though Catholic and Protestant rituals and costums may be different, we still worship the one God and the Catholic church is the mother church, it is long past time we put aside our differences and come together for the benifit of us all and mankind. (This is from a Presbyterian. The Prrsbyterians were the biggiest prosecutors and most responcible for the deaths of millions of Irish in their homeland from the potato famine of the 1800's) Everyone should read the book and bow our heads in shame. I suppose the animosity is still there in Ireland. It's somewhat amuzing, in our church our communion is the same as the Catholic church and we ricite together the Apostles Creed, the same as the Catholics.

Presbyterian, what is WCF 25.6?
"There is no other head of the Church but the Lord Jesus Christ. Nor can the Pope of Rome, in any sense, be head thereof; but is that Antichrist, that man of sin, and son of perdition, that exalts himself, in the Church, against Christ and all that is called God."

How can you say that church at Rome is the mother church?

I think it's because most all the other denominations we see today were denominations that initially broke away from the Catholic Church. Calvinists, Anabaptists, Anglicans...etc etc

From my understanding, it was a reformation. Why, after reforming such anti-Christian doctrines and rituals, would one want to return and unite with such a thing?

I guess that would depend on the extent of reforming the reformers did and whether the original institution reformed. Some reformers didn't go very far.

That's not what the OP is advocating. They're saying the reformed should return and unite with that it failed to reform. Doesn't make much sense to me, but I could be misunderstanding.

I think the OP is saying (though I'm sure the OP can speak for themselves) that since we worship the same God, let us come together in love to do so, as opposed to being divisive; hence, why he offered an apology to those he felt were offended and oppressed.

The reformers eventually came to the conclusion that the papists were preaching a different gospel. Being divisive was the only manner in which to address the judgment upon such people:

As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed/anathema/condemned to hell. Gal. 1:9

Mhm, and this is why the OP is offering an apology so that there will be forgiveness and they can learn to worship as one.

Your post, with all due respect, can be used for many things.

"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."- Matthew 6:14-15

There can be no unity with different gospels. At least that's how I read the Apostle's letter. I could be wrong though.
