The Sermon on the Mount is a curve though - no one can do those things unless the Son lives through him.
So back to Christ - He's the answer to every question.
Being so concerned about salvation is paradoxically a bit selfish. What about doing the right thing for others? The Sermon of the Mount is the central teaching of Jesus Christ.

Totally true if you are thinking of salvation from any punishment, but salvation from a futile, selfish liffe into a lifelived in love is an entirely different matter.......except it really is "life more abundant."
1Co 15:3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 1Co 15:4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
And so the Christian message is this, that since Christ has paid for all sins, forgiveness of sins through faith in Jesus as a free gift to all believed is to be preached until Jesus comes again. Hope that helps.

Without salvation, we remain separated from God (John 3). The love of God, expressed through Christ's redemptive work, comes first. Then, our love back to God, expressed through good works, is the natural reaction (James 2).

^100% agreed. He gave his life so that our sins would be forgiven, thats HUGE, we should appreciate that and give thanks for it everyday.

I understand some protestants are highly concerned about personal salvation, but paradoxically that in itself is selfish. If one reads the Sermon of the Mount which is the central teaching of Jesus one can see that treating out neighbor as we would treat ourselves is key to the Christian life.
Jesus Christ, Him crucified and risen again, for the remission of sin.

And 1 Corinthians 15:4 which states "according to scriptures" is significant because the OT believer then did not get saved by a different message.
Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for."
Romans 1:17
For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,
just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

I would remind you that the greatest commandment is to love God. Loving others is second.

Of course, as John's epistle reminds us, if we can't love people, whom we CAN see, how can we love God, whom we CAN'T see.
So, ultimately, if you aren't living by the second command, you can't possibly be living by the first.
