What do you see this verse of truth to say?
Ps 37:4-5
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
You probably hear it say if you love the LORD He is going to give you everything your heart desires, RIGHT?
That is what our carnal eyes want to hear it say and natural eyes see in the Word. Yet in Christ God wants us to FIRST be able to receive the spiritual truth.... and THEN shall the natural manifest according to our faith.
Here is what it means spiritually, if you CHOOSE in your heart to seek the ways that He want us to have by asking Him to put them in your heart, then HE will be able to give you the desires in your heart that are pleasing to Him, for He will NOT take your free will. And for your choosing to do this and for your faith that He is able and will..... then He is able to Bless you with the natural things that are pleasing to you. Of course as long as they are not such things that are not according to His will, such as anything that is for harm of self or others. Naturally one who is seeking for pure desires in their heart would never ask for such things anyways and those type of things should be the first on your list for Him to cleanse from your life!
This is the faith that He talked about, for FAITH is the only thing that pleases Him, for we should not depend on our own strength or the strength of any man's hand to help us in life. ONLY OUR FATHER can give us His peace and provision, and protection over His children for our choosing to do things HIS WAY which is really for OUR GOOD.

Sow your seeds/Words of faith in God in the good soil of your heart, keep them watered with the living water of the Word of His promises found in the Bible meant for those who LOVE Him,pouring it over and over again in your mind till you believe it more than you know your own name that no one can tell you different. And watch them sprout and produce a harvest for you as long as you don't dig them up with DOUBT.

By prayer spread thy case and all thy cares before the Lord, and trust in him. We must do our duty, and then leave the event with God. The promise is very sweet: He shall bring that to pass, whatever it is, which thou has committed to him.

Delight thyself also in the - Lord. The word rendered "delight" means properly to live delicately and effeminately; then, to be tender or delicate; then, to live a life of ease or pleasure; then, to find delight or pleasure in anything. The meaning here is, that we should seek our happiness in God - in his being, his perfections, his friendship, his love.
And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart - literally, the "askings," or the "requests" of thy heart. What you really "desire" will be granted to you. That is,
(a) the fact that you seek your happiness in him will regulate your desires, so that you will be "disposed" to ask only those things which it will be proper for him to grant; and
(b) the fact that you do find your happiness in him will be a reason why he will grant your desires.

Verse 5. - Commit thy way unto the Lord (comp. Proverbs 16:3; Psalm 22:8). The meaning is, "Cast thyself and thy life unreservedly upon God - yield thyself wholly to him - look to him for support and guidance." Trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. "He will accomplish all that thy faith has laid upon him" (Kay).

Note the passage does not say, 'delight yourself in worldly things; and the Lord shall give you the desires of your heart.'
The Lord created man with an inborn knowledge of Himself (Rom 1:18-20) ... and also inborn desires in every heart for things that come ONLY from the Lord and His indwelling Holy Spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, humility and self-control (Gal 5:22-23).
People often substitute "worldly stuff" that they 'hope' will satisfy these heart-level desires ... to no avail. God does not intend for mankind to 'fill the God-shaped hole' that He created in every heart, with worldly junk. Thus, those without God's indwelling Holy Spirit, are filled with doubt and uncertainty; - in place of the peace and joy that comes from the Lord.
From 1 Corinthians 2..... In verse 12-16..``Now we have received , not the spirit of the world , but the spirit which is of God , that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God ...... Which things also we speak not in the words which man`s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches , comparing spiritual things , comparing spiritual things with spiritual ...... But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God , for they are foolishness to him , neither can he know them , because they are spiritually discerned .. but he that is spiritual judge all things yet he himself is judged of no man ...For who has known the mind of the Lord , that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. ``...................See many people in the world may look to logic of that known experiences , Christians are called to trust in the Lord and believe in Spiritual things which can be illogical to the natural man..... . Actually logic against faith is a regular tool of the spirit of antichrist which can rob God of blessing His people

I think John Gill and Mr. Horton nailed it. This so often missed today: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart is not talking about that new Ferrari or that 4500 Sq. Ft. beachfront home in Maui. It's as Gill said, such as are according to the will of God, and for the good of his people; such as relate to communion with him, and to the communication of more grace from him, and to the enjoyment of eternal glory. and Mr. Horton,"'God does not intend for mankind to 'fill the God-shaped hole' that He created in every heart, with worldly junk [and]"worldly stuff" that they 'hope' will satisfy these heart-level desires.'" Sorry Mr. Horton, I changed your wording around a little.
I like John Gill. He's an oldie for sure, but I find his commentaries as timely today as they were when written. It's said he mastered Latin and Greek by age 11. He loved logic and Hebrew. He pastored, and I love this name, The Strict Baptist Church for 51 years. Today, it's as if being called Baptist is a pariah, let alone a Strict Baptist. I've read that is changing though. Anyway, it took him 17 years to write what's become known as Gill's Exposition of The Entire Bible.
