So which is it?
If you carefully investigate the implications of the two commands to "love God and each other" . . . they encompass everything that could ever have been considered sin . . . and then some. You cannot commit adultery if you truly love your mate and everyone else as yourself. You would never want to harm anyone or violate their trust for your selfish desires and lust. You could not commit murder for the same reasons. Agape love is all-encompassing and restricts all manner of sin. If you truly "love God and each other" you could never sin. Unfortunately we are not very good at it. That is why we needed Jesus as our "designated hitter." He achieved perfect agape love for God and every single one of us . . . even through scourging and crucifixion. When He died and was reborn as Spirit His Holy Spirit became available to us within our consciousness as the Comforter. He abides with us and guides us to try to "love God and each other" as much as possible and repent when we don't.

True, but the laws that many say are abolished is what tells us how love God and Love one another. We would not know that we shoud not covet, steal, lie, disrespect parents, refrain from sexual immorality, to know which foods were meant for food consumption, stay away from idolatry if they were not commands in the bible.

It does not require laws to determine that some behavior is the opposite of loving or caring about others, one makes such rules to teach children. What is edible is determined by the effect on the body, both short term (don't eat arsenic) and long term, (too much fatty food makes YOU fat, etc). Idolotry is about your relationship with God, either it is love, or it is what you can get from it. Seriously, think about the Spirit behind "the New Commandment," it's just not about rules, at least after we grow up.

Actually, Jesus didn't say the 'Two Greatest Commandments' replaced or superseded the Law and Commandments (Love the Lord with your heart, mind, soul and strength; and Love your neighbor as yourself). He said, "Upon these two hang all of the law and the commandments."

The reason/purpose for the law was to lead men to Christ who fulfilled the law for all who believe and trust in Him. However, those who reject Christ, have not yet availed themselves of this Grace. For them, the Law and 'wages of sin' remain intact.

Back to the original question, the indwelling Holy Spirit 'writes the law in the hearts of believers who are 'born again' in the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ. ("Unless one is born again, he will not enter the kingdom of Heaven - Jn. 3).

What you say about the role of the law was only true for our ignorant ancient ancestors. It is not true for us since Christ abides with us and we have the law "written in our hearts." The Comforter guides us to the truth written there if we are sincere and loving. Of the 613 nonsense commands very few involve agape love. The ONLY sins that exist are those that violate agape love. We always know when we are being unloving!

Another way of saying "unloving" is "selfish."
