Becuase of his public criticisms of the Catholic Church on his TV show as far back as the 1980s, I consider Phil Donahue to be the "spiritual godfather" of fallen-away Catholics - people who will call themselves Catholic until the day they die but basically want the Church to become another "progressive" sect. Is Donahue your man?

I certainly disagree with a lot of things Donahue has said over the years. But who am I to judge? I don't know his heart.

Folks forget that at times Catholicism is a part of a persons ethnicity. He is an Irish Catholic.

You have a point Julian, I run into a good number of CINO's (Catholics In Name Only), who are ethnically Catholic, but have little to no idea what their 'faith' actually believes.

NO!

And I agree. There are MANY more who choose to Obey ONLY what they agree with. And God will NOT ACCEPT THEIR EXCUSES AS TO WHY THEY END UP WHERE THEY DO.

God Bless you,

Do you believe that God is going to judge us on ethnicity when we die? I agree--religion is often about ethnicity or culture as much as anything else. But do you think that's a valid answer? Or is it just a cop-out to allow a person to not get more than surface deep in their religion?

I am a Catholic but think both extremes are wrong. What gets me are the so called Catholics who say have several kids out of wedlock, had been divorced several times, are racists and don't believe in helping the poor. These types of people are just kidding themselves.
