The distraction and diversion of the "precepts and doctrines of men" derived from the scriptures "written in ink" have corrupted Christ's Gospel and been a huge stumbling block to knowing God and Jesus. Christ's message is of agape love and we are instructed to "love God and each other" daily and repent when we don't. Everything else is divisive and distracting and irrelevant. Those who keep promoting the distraction are indeed like the Pharisees Christ chastised for burdening others with stumbling blocks.

Mystic, is this what is called "Christ consciousness" AKA following Christ and doing as He said (ie. why do you follow ME but do not DO what I say?)
Of course there is also, "Study to show thyself approved, a workman rightly dividing the Word"?
True, there is value in knowing what we are talking about but too often that "study" turns into the situation of the previous verse: 14Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.

Dear Jerwade, Mt 3:7-10," You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?.....bring forth fruit in keeping with your repentance;....the axe is already laid at the root of the trees, every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire."
The Pharisees and the Sadducees are much like the "Christians". They think that if they can recite what they believe to be Scripture, and are baptized and believe the right set of dogmas, then they are "saved". Like the Pharisees, they will find that if they do not have good fruit in keeping with repentance, they will be in for a rude awakening. They cling to their covenant with death, and their traditions of men, not knowing that their "pact with Sheol shall not stand". (Isaiah 28:15- Isaiah 29:14)
