It seems many people I've recently conversed with believe the Lake of Fire is real physical fire.
Just curious, what do people here think it is - real physical fire? Spiritual fire (representing something else)? No idea?
I believe the 'fire' is just metaphorical language as is the term 'outer darkness.' The 'fire' imagery comes straight out of the second temple period Jewish work of 1 Enoch which describes a place where certain people will go that is characterized by great columns of fire. The New Testament writers utilized the fire concept to help them express the severity of the place but I see no reason that the fire has to be taken literally.

Luke 16:24
24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
scripture tells us directly the fire is a real physical fire in this parable (though you can debate whether this is a parable or not but that's for another thread)

Yes - it does actually relate to something but not on the purely individual level is how I understand it, it relates to the collective and there needs to be the same comparisons done with the other types of imagery - water is another very important one

If it's a physical ETERNAL fire, then there must be an endless supply of fossil/bio fuels, right?
