Well, Dew, the qualifying condition is that it will not do harm to the drinker. That type of poison affects the mental capacities and quite frankly....... well, never mind.
If God wants to work in that way today, I have no problem with it. 1 Cor 13:8 suggests though, that the sign gifts will cease at some point. Paul seems to be suggesting that they did not continue. I wouldn't suggest that our faith depends on seeing those signs.
For those that are wondering, Mark 16:17-18 is: "17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
All of these signs were seen in the early church. Every one of them was done by or done to an apostle. They were intended to be signs to validate the message being preached.
And at that time, since it was then they needed such evidence.
Plus of course, it is likely it is a spurious addition to scripture.
plus, doing any sign is no evidence of God's spirit as a few sons of a man named Sceva found out.
ASV Acts 19:14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, a chief priest, who did this.
Really, I think it would be more interesting to hear about the last time YOU did one of the signs in Mark 16-17-18...
.
Please keep in mind that Mark 16 ends at verse 8.
KJV Bibles added verses 9 to 20
Note that they style of writing changes after verse 8, and there are No corresponding cross-reference verses as there is with the rest of Mark.
Jerome and Eusebius both agreed Mark 16 ends at verse 8, and those spurious verses are missing from ancient manuscripts such as the Vatican 1209 and the Sinaitic.

Yes, spurious verses Mark 16:9-20. There aren't corresponding verses such as verse 15 to preach to every creature.
Matthew 24:14 says to all nations Not every person or creature.
No Scripture says to handle snakes in such a way.
Jesus did Not go to heaven that day. Not until Acts 1:9 and Not earlier as Mark 16:19 says. Later they gathered together on earth in that locked room of John 20:19.

Plus the snake handlers use rattlesnakes AFTER being repeatedly being exposed to the venom to give immunity (usually works, but not always). If you ever run across someone who truly believes this set of verses is true, hand them a Black Mamba. That will settle the issue.

Everyone seems to ignore that as they want to claim thier "gifts" are in fulfillment of those verses, so listen to them.
Not seeing the problem is an evidence of a lack of God's spirit.
The only thing left after Mark 16:8 is the questionable verses. The evidence seems to support that the verses following VS 8 are later additions.
so that would make them errors? and not the word of God?
