There's a distinction between "religious marriage" with all of its sacred religious mumbo jumbo and "civil marriage" which has to do with legal and tax issues. There's nothing "sacred" about civil marriage, so there's no reason for conservative Christians to get upset.

I wish more folks on both sides of this issue would make this distinction. There'd be a lot less conflict. And far fewer claims that the End of the World is near.

That's a good point, but I wonder this: What happens now when a gay couple wants to get married in a church, and the pastor/priest denies it? At that point it does become a religious issue if the couple is dead-set on getting married in a church, or a specific church. They may even be willing to file a lawsuit to get their way or prove a point. Now it becomes a religious issue AND a discrimination issue.

Just a thought.

You're talking about Step 2 which comes up next. They started it earlier with these cases: Here it is: Complete catalogue of ‘same-sex marriage’ entrapments For some homosexuals, it is about bending your arm back until you scream that homosexual acts are moral in the eyes of God.

Allowing 2 people of the same sex to marry will open up opportunities for others to make those legal contracts for the purposes of benefits like insurance and taxation. They won't even consider it a "marriage" of any kind but a path to benefits. It will always be a "lesser" and simply legal joining of two individuals probably eventually even more than two.

I know this has been a hot-topic of debate on the Christianity board. Thoughts? And regardless of your opinion, please try to keep it civil. It really is possible to share your opinion and not attack others who disagree!
It is unfortunate but inevitable. I suspect this will move the homosexual battleground to the churches and pulpits and greater persecution will come to places of worship who do not accept the morality of homosexual actions.

However, a Supreme Court, as Mike Huckabee said, cannot usurp the authority of the Supreme Being. Just because something is legal, does not mean it is moral.

As Christians, we must continue to love all people, without exception, while standing firm on the objective moral truth of God.

What if enough of us decide that we don't want to live in this society anymore ?
That's when the rubber will hit the road one day.
When 9 political appointees in black robes vote 5 to 4 can do away with a divine
institution that has been in place since this history of man, then something is wrong.
That is not a country worth dying for, or living in, in my estimation.

We are called to live in the world, but not be of the world or love the things in it. We are to submit to the governments and authorities placed over us by God unless we are forced to sin against God. In Jesus' day, the government was corrupt and sadistic, publicly authorizing torture and shaming without an impartial justice system.

The winds of sin will swirl around us, but we are called to be a city on a hill, the light in a dark world and the salt of the Earth.

Love all people, live peaceably, pray hard, share the good news, stand firm in the objective morality of God. That's all we're called to do.

To be honest, as believers, I don't think anything we heard to day is a shock. Just like someone in this thread said earlier, this is just prophecy being fulfilled.

Ah, the sound of music: Angry, impotent bellowing from spiritual Mastodons sinking into the tar sands of irrelevance.

Who cares?

Such decisions have no direct impact on anyone's life who reject the actions of homosexuals as un-scriptural. The Government makes lots of decisions that run counter to the Bible, so what, that is expected to happen and again, live a proper life and let others live as they choose.

Good heavens, protesting could turn a homosexual who was considering actually living by the Bible's standards away from such by feeling He/She is hated.

Protesting is kinda self defeating and ... we are told to be no part of the world, not directly involved in what it does. Jesus did not speak against any Government decision/directive when asked, rather showed how to cope and keep going. He did not protest or say to. He knew Satan controlled all Governments and that was to be corrected in the future. His concern was helping people not hurting them and definitely not getting involved in stupid political squabbles that do more harm than good.
