Lets end this once and for all, I am tired of reading posts on this forum about how people are "offended" or "shocked" about something that Pope Francis NEVER actually endorsed nor supports.

Vatican confirms pope met Kentucky clerk, won't comment further

The Vatican has even gone as far as hinting that they are considering removing the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States (Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano) from his position for causing this whole mess with a poor decision..

It doesn't matter what the pope thinks anyway. Most Christians probably judge other people by their devotion to Kim Davis. Even people like the pope. For a while I'm sure that many had a better opinion of him, when they thought that he might be agreeing with her on some things. But if it turns out that he was not, then they will have little regard for the pope.

Kim Davis is probably the person that they truly respect more, between the two.

But we want to maximize the chances that a fundamentalist will read and comprehend one of them.

I like them. I am glad Kim Davis met the Pope. I hope she reflects on the meaning to her, not her cause. I hope the tight muscle around her heart is shattered.

I would like to have a Cosmo with her, I will make the white chocolate, and lime truffels. I think when she releases herself from the cause, she will have plenty to say.

She is doing pennance and is not done yet.

There you go! I was hoping, when I first heard she'd met the Pope, that it would be her first step in becoming a Catholic and dedicating her life to the cause of social justice. Catholics do social justice real well.

A softened heart would be good as well.

Why not? This thread was where I learned the name of person responsible for Ms. Davis' invitation. Had you known it previously? Had you known he held an important position in the Church? If so... well done! I wasn't aware fundamentalists paid such close attention to what the Catholics are doing.

Ok - thanks for that. We have had a run -in, elsewhere but I have no problem with a useful post . There is a question of whether and if so, by how much the Pope's views on gays (never mind SSM) differ from Vatican orthodoxy and, if so, what he can do about it. But the overdone publicity of the presentation of Kim Davis to the Pope is worth putting in perspective. And instead of making the Pope look bad (it makes him look better) it makes the whole Kim Davis publicity machine look bad. And the longer it goes on, the worse it looks.

I know But Mr Knight wanted to Make a Statement and Draw a Line under all this. I don't think it will, since it just poses more questions about what Pope Frankie really thinks about Gay marriage and the Kim David publicity machine will trundle on for some time yet...until the next battle and (cynical ol' me suspects ) an even better fundraising opportunity presents itself.
