have you considered a possibility of the same source from Adam(PBUH) to Jesus(PBUH) to Muhammad(PBUH), there is one main difference between Islam and Christianity, Islam says Jesus(PBUH) is the Messenger of God just like Messengers came before him and Christianity says Jesus(PBUH) is God, as far as teachings are concern there are so much similarities between them, because the source is the same (God Almighty)
There is one GLARING difference, Mohammed was a raider and murderer. Jesus was NOT. Mohammed killed. Jesus was tortured and murdered. The one you choose to accept as your messenger from God reveals more about you and the kind of God that appeals to you.

You might as well say "Why did the Protestant Reformation happen?" I wonder what the Western world would look like now if Martin Luther was executed. Maybe Western Christianity would not have splintered into a million pieces and the worst evil coming from the Evangelical, Fundamentalist, and the nihilist Christian denominations.
And also "Why does Judaism still exist?" The Pharisees won and have controlled and shaped modern-day Judaism since the Roman diaspora. They have inoculated their flock against any witnessing by Christians with Zionism. Too bad some of the more secular 19th-Century American Establishment mainline-Protestant Christians got fooled into extending Judaism's lifespan instead of helping the Christian witnessing that the WASPs were obligated to do as "Christians".
Islam is obviously a huge barrier to the spread of Christianity. In some countries, apostasy from Islam is actually a capital offense.
If Christianity is the One True Path to Salvation, then why did God allow a religion like Islam to come onto the scene and thrive? Preventing the founding of a false religion like Islam should have been a priority.
God respects ALL religions, contrary to what the Christian leaders would want you to believe, naturally because when people quit Christianity because of the rampant fraud (Benny Hinn and his ilk, anyone ?) it takes money out of their pockets.

Its sad you think that way, Muhammad(PBUH) never killed anyone unjustly, as far as Jesus(PBUH) is concern, getting tortured and killed is not the criteria to judge, BTW Jesus(PBUH) never died and God Almighty rise him above and will come back to earth one day. He died or not is debatable even from the Bible.
But that doesn't make any sense. The Christian God wants all to be saved, according to the New Testament. Why would he allow all of these false religions to start up, trapping millions of souls in their grasp?
Who says they are false? Maybe God has a different plan for different nations..a form of worship that is more appropriate for whatever group or culture.
I believe God(swt) did not allow Islam to happen. He commanded it to happen as a final chance for us to get His message straight and not mess it up like we always have.
It is our last chance to learn that "There is only one God(swt) who has no equals, partners, or progeny and He alone are we to worship."

It means he never murdered any one and was never an agressor. Yes, there was a war going on as the non-Muslims did try to destroy Islam and yes like in all wars there were casualties. But, Muhammad(saws) never killed except in self defense and only when that was the only means to stop an aggressor.

Sadly, it depends on whose version of history one looks at. There are no unbiased reports of it known to exist.
About all we know of it is from the Qur'an and Ahadith.
