Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,
and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written,
‘HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU’;
and
‘ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP,
SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’”
Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST."
(Matthew 4:5-7)

I was reading from this website (dreammoods) containing a dream symbol dictionary and happened to come across something interesting:

"Building: To dream that you or someone fall off a building suggests that you are descending into the realm of subconscious. You are learning about and acknowledging aspects of your subconscious. Alternatively, it symbolizes your fear of not being able to complete or succeeding in a task."

If we were to interpret this passage (Jesus being tempted by Satan) symbolically, then Satan would represent the part of the mind which questions authority. Falling from the temple would represent going into the subconscious mind. The answers lie within. But this story indicated that Jesus preferred to stick with the religious tradition. For him to challenge tradition would have been like "testing" the system of authority under which he lived.

Likewise, all demonic possessions would represent people questioning authority, while their "healing" and exorcisms would represent succumbing to societal norms, and conforming to that authority which most people follow like sheep.

What do you think of this interpretation?

The devil through the spirit shows Jesus to commit suicide , or prove that God will protect you .......... As Jesus knows by faith only and never tempting God is any way .....................Shows that the devil tells many people to commit suicide , but most would be spiritually undiscerning , and then jump in hopelessness ....... Then removing the devil spiritually by God Spirit represents that God can remove the devil and his influences of this celestial being which has limited knowledge and power to harm people

Satan called him "Son of God" which represented his connection to the religious authority of his ancestors. He temped the son of "God" to jump.

"Son of man" was supposed to be a bad thing in Moses' story of the flood. But both Jesus and Ezekiel went by this term also, as something very positive. "Son of man" is the true good nature in all men.

Committing religious suicide would have been rejecting this religious tradition and trusting your own mind.

I don't believe for one minute that Jesus preferred to stick with religious tradition, he meets us where we are and to the Jew he will meet them on their level, he meets the fundamentalist on their level(and they always get their arses whipped). Meeting someone on their level does not mean you compromise your own state of being. It says of him he became poor(our disposition through belief in separation from God) for the purpose of bringing us to his state of consciousness 2 Cor 8:9

Nor do I. That is why the real Jesus was killed.

But perhaps the "Jesus" in the story represents what Christians were turning Jesus into.

We are our own Satan...

I don't believe there was a literal devil at that location anymore then there was in Eden. Adam fell from "his glory" in a place where he lacked nothing around him, by being tempted, Jesus ascending to glory in a barren place, where he lacked nothing of the fullness of God in him. Very strange that. Is it any wonder fundamentalists do not want you to know the secret of Jesus........ Which is greater is he that is in you, unless of cause the greater one in you contradicts their biases, prejudices and misconceptions of God

Never. That's not what I said. It's not what the Matthew passage said either.
