So much confusion over this subject. In OT times before the cross "hell" or any of the names associated consisted of two parts. Paradise and torments......believers in paradise and unbelievers in torments. While both were technically hell the accomodations were vastly different for the groups. The reason believers were down there was their sins had not yet been taken away at the cross, no sinful beings in heaven allowed. Jesus told the thief on the cross he would be with Him in paradise that very day........and somewhere in that time period Jesus closed paradise up and took all the believers up to heaven with Him as the price had been paid. Believers today go (soul and spirit) immediately to be in the presence of the Lord. Unbelievers are stuck separated from God in torments, and will be until the end of the millenium. Unbelievably they will all be resurrected and given a body fit for hell, and in time they will all be standing in that long line at the great white throne judgment from which NONE will escape. Believers are REWARDED immediately upon arrival in heaven, their sins have all been JUDGED and paid for at the cross.......there is no double jeopardy in Gods world.
Brief word about the rapture.....this being the next event on Gods program.......those who don't know any better all look at it as an "escape" from the Tribulation, which is not true......it is primarily the Lord reuniting believers with glorified bodies and making all complete again. Souls and spirits need bodies which will be recognizable, to carry out the operations of eternity. Those taken up in the rapture will be in heaven watching as the martyrs of the Tribulation arrive, at the end of the Trib all those will then return with a triumphant Lord to the earth at the second coming.
After these things have taken place God rolls the universe up and cleanses everything and puts a new world and universe in operation, everywhere and everything the devil touched is gone......all new and perfect. It will be glorious beyond our imagination. Then believers sail off into eternity with their mighty Savior all existing in the "now" where time will not be a factor. We will be extending the Lords agenda throughout the universe with a glorified body just like the Lord has, eternal and able to travel fantastic distances in the blink of an eye. At the opposite end of the spectrum those who didn't take advantage of the free gift of salvation are in perpetual darkness with demons and heat forever. It won't be pleasant, there will be gradations in hell with some sections slightly better than others but it's still hell, no way out and the extreme regret of knowing you didn't have to be there.
I've made my decision for Jesus......He's waiting for you just as you are......ALL are welcome
None of us know who's in hell, because that knowledge is held exclusively with God. Any attempts at defining those present in hell are claims that we are on the same level as God, and have that intimate knowledge.
Nowhere in scripture does it command us to know who is in hell, or even spend time trying to figure it out. We are to gain salvation, and then move forward. Dwelling on such matters as who is in hell is to have an idle mind and spirit.

Hell is non-existent with the exception being the grave.
The soul stays trapped in whatever it did not overcome while in the body, the spirit returns to the One who gave it. It's a type of "purgatory". This is why it says He reproves us with our OWN wickedness and the fruit of our OWN lips we will be condemned/judged. However, it's important to remember that His judgments are unto victory. And before the naysayers hit, let me just say, save your breath. I've been there; He took me. Peace

People do NOT seem to realize how important is what they think and believe to their ultimate fate upon their death and rebirth as Spirit. Their Spirit is the cumulative composite of everything they have ever thought, felt or done. It IS their character. Their character determines who they are most resonant with and what their fate will ultimately be. Smart Christians try to be as resonant with Jesus as humanly possible. Everyone else who is focused on irrelevancies like laws and sins and obedience is truly missing the mark.
The angels in Revelation were described in the beginning of the book as being very beautiful and holy creatures. But then something happened. Something that caused silence in heaven for a period of time. Then all those angels fell. Their destruction is described after that point.
My only conclusion is that it is a place for anyone who chooses to believe in religion in any form. It will fall from its original heavenly state. It will be this way for all future generations, for anyone choosing to follow religious faith in any form.
That is how religious faith is an eternal place of torment, literally.
This is certainly an interesting perspective. I think that all who live in fear of death are in a certain amount of torment. I think even those who do not practice a religion, but who fear death have a certain amount of torment. Humans and animals are, by nature, averse to death.
