The "twilight" times just before dropping off to sleep or just before fully awakening from sleep are the altered states when we are still in contact with our real state of being. These are also the times when we can receive "transients" from the thoughts of others who may be thinking or emoting very strongly about us. This is when having a standard of truth about the nature of God is essential to discern the differences in the possible sources we can encounter.

I have to have a very quiet mind to hear from the Holy Spirit. I asked him why he speaks to me right upon awakening and the answer was so that I will know that it is Him speaking before my mind is filled with the cares of the day. We often have too much clutter in our minds to hear God speak.
