The American Miracle, God's Hand in America's Rise, by Michael Medved.

It sounds interesting to me because I've always believed that it's true. Thanks for mentioning it.

Janelle, have to agree with Hannibal on this. for various reasons (including download restrictions for those of us with SlOW satellite internet) simply linking to a video may not be easy or economical of data. OTOH, a very brief summation of what the video is about: "watch Dr. Knowitall finally prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that "zilch IS truth"'---as simple as that, LOL and then those of us with technical barriers of some sort will have something helpful to make a decision to either watch the video, find some other way of learning more---or not.

just sayin'

BTW, thanks Gentlearts for providing that useful brief summation of the video am kind of a fan of Mr. Medved's style and content!!!

This Is My Beloved Son: Jesus, the Man (Book Preview) by Doyle Herbert Snyder.
Why did Jesus retaliate with words like hypocrite and calling the religious vipers and snakes!

https://books.google.com/books?id=uV...iate+with+word

Did these words truly come from Jesus?

well, if you are referring to the events in Matt. 12 apparently the context for the harsh words is that the religious authorities ( often referred to as "the scribes and Pharisees") had denounced His healing of a "demon-possessed" blind and mute man (one might think a good thing) as proof that He was working with the devil ("Beelzebub") and therefore really an evil dude. earlier in that chapter the same good folks had accused him of profaning the Sabbath by allowing His disciples to "harvest" grain for them to eat because they were hungry (how terrible is that???). so after being castigated for being a Sabbath breaker and a friend and co-worker with a demon for trying to help and heal someone in need by "religious" folks who apparently should have known better about what a Messiah should be doing, Jesus gave them a piece of His mind concerning their hardiness of heart and "holier than thou" attitude by using some rather attention-getting phrases.

I don't have a problem and would say his patience worn thin with the self-righteous as he turned over their tables; and called them vipers and snakes which shows that he was, after all, human. And he did on many occasions, try to explain things but was rejected by a hostile and unreceptive people. However, I was wondering, if perhaps, some of the things he was suppose to have said were actually attributed to him by those who may have been antagonistic? Like those who wanted to call down-fire upon others?

Of course, I do not want to be accused of high-jacking a thread, even if it does relate to a book?
Yet, in order to understand the present, one would need to have a greater comprehension of the past?

well, right, wrong, or indifferent the "majority", "traditional", or "orthodox" understanding is that Christ is BOTH divine and human ("true God and true Man") and if so one can say that the apparent (and quite understandable) anger at those who accused Him of doing evil by doing good shows the "human" part of Him while NOT sending fire down from heaven (or plagues of boils or some other really cool chastisement, LOL) on such unbelievers and "haters" shows His "divine" mercy.

IMHO, His actions (showing both a man's anger at obvious hypocrisy and injustice AND God's mercy in not punishing such things forthwith) in this particular situation seem reasonable, in character, and not the result of some smear campaign by unknown evil doers (first century A.D. equivalent of the "trilateral commission" or worse yet the "dark lord" Trump---aka Caesar, LOL) to subvert the Gospel message even as it is written.

one might say that it is very interesting that the Gospels draw an unflinchingly realistic view of the "humanness" of Jesus' own disciples---their anger and desire to punish (the sending fire down from heaven you mention), their desire for power (arguing who among them would be "first" in the Kingdom Jesus would establish), their own inability to recognize Jesus as Messiah or accept that He would have to suffer and die (and rise again) to "fulfill the prophets", and of course that misunderstanding would lead to them deserting and denying Him when the time came for Him to indeed by killed by representatives of His own people, etc., etc.). certainly no white-wash claiming the perfection or reliability of even those who seemed to "know" Him best and got all the inside skimmy on the meaning of various parables which apparently they continued to misunderstand. with all that the Gospels might indeed been written to discredit Jesus and His motley crew of disciples---or it just indeed might be the best way of showing that with God all things are possible and that the evil, and stupidity, and misunderstanding of all sides concerned can be a means of reconciliation, forgiveness, and salvation for humanity. go figure.

in the peace of Christ.
