I am a non practicing catholic. My girlfriend and I had a rocky relationship. I was advised I could choose the godfather and she the godmother. She chose her best friend, I chose my sister's boyfriend (soon to be fiancee). The baptism was yesterday (12.15.2018). I checked the paperwork, her father is named as the sponsor.... So does this mean that my choice of a godfather is non-existent? Help? They didn't even ask for my choice of godfather's paperwork....

I'm sorry this has happened to you, I hope it settles well for all good parties involved soon.
Is this a legal issue (legal godparents) or merely a religious one (religious godparents). I do know it can often be intertwined.

I'm not sure. I would set up an appointment with the parish office to find out what happened, and to understand the paperwork. You could also try to check with your archdiocese as well.

Who actually showed up to the ceremony (sacrament) as the godfather?
Were you even there?
Its easy - whoever was standing there (name) goes on the certificate!
It sounds like the Church wants more information about something. Usually, when this process is left incomplete it means that there is something that someone else is wanting to know.
Or to see if there is something further about your life that would be worth discovering as some type of information or perhaps it is just a blind grab in an attempt to reach out into the void and rake in more information. Maybe they want to see you again ?
