Jesus said the water He gives provides eternal life to whomever drinks it.
Why didn't He give the woman that water so she could drink it?

"Anyone who drinks the water I give him shall never become thirsty. The water I give him shall be like a well inside him rising up to provide eternal life."

The women asked him for the water but he changed the subject.

Not very loving of him!

He went on to tell her he knew she was a sinner by mentioning she had had 5 husbands.

Was he trying to embarrass her or what?

Actually most preachers today interpret the scripture wrong ...... See Jesus was talking about how the Samaritan had to go to worship the true God in Jerusalem where the God of the Jews was not the husband of the Samaritan because the Samaritan had worshiped baal which is made up of five parts , where Samaritan never had five marriages in the flesh but the five were their spiritual false gods of baal ..... See baal is a name for husband in Hebrew today , where baal was to god of weather , lightning, wind, rain, fertility the crops, the underworld , and even god of battle

I believe, since there was not a tape recorder there...parts were left out.
No he wasn't trying to embarrass her, as if.

If this is a sample of how Christians read verses...oh my...
'Was he trying to embarrass her...?''....does any Christian even know the Nature of this man?
Sometimes I wonder.
Sorry. if that is harsh...but come ON!

I'm not a Christian. Exposing her like that would tend to be embarrassing. What was His point?

Jesus said some pretty harsh things at times. His way of loving others does not add up to being nice.

His nature was to serve God. That was His mission. He didn't always say what people wanted to hear.

The true answer is that this particular story was just not very well written. But the POINT of the story was well developed because it points out something spiritually that people have understood for centuries now.

Water is representative of the Holy Spirit. The water Jesus refers to quenches spiritual thirst, not physical thirst.

So why didn't He give her the Holy Spirit?
