We recognize that mainstream Christianity has changed a great deal over the passing centuries. Every era of 'prophets', popes, and founding fathers; added and changed doctrines away from the original doctrines that were understood during the Bible eras.
We want to get down to the Fundamental doctrines of the Bible, without the added Greek doctrines, with out the added Roman doctrines. Just the essential Judeo-Christian doctrines.
So to study the Bible, for what it says. And to really examine 'church' doctrine, for where did each doctrine originate. Usually the long developed church doctrines have a political history and an expediency to them which has long since faded away.
If the Bible is God's Word to us, then why change it?
If it is God's Word then it should be our only source for doctrine, and not men's reasoning. Not a political leader's reasoning.
I am surprised to hear it compared to: Nazis, as taking away choices from the individual. If you wish to believe a new doctrine, have a ball. I have no desire to take anything from you. We are free from the Law, to live in liberty which is in Christ.
I also fail to see any comparison to Islamic fundamentalism.

I'm not surprised. There is no new doctrine about tricky's view\comment. How do you think Hitler came about in the first place....by people not being able to differentiate between good from evil (Hitler). He doesn't see any difference, as I said before the stage is being set yet once again.
Matthew 5:13
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men."
Sadly, more and more people in the US think are thinking that way too. If we listen to the 'enlightened' we will be good for nothing.

That or I simply understand religion and the Nazi-ideology better than you do.
Nazis are fundamentalists too except they have replaced their divine all-father with Hitler.
Quote:
The whole basis of Christianity is choosing to answer God's calling.
Some choose to answer that call, some choose not to. But everyone makes a choice.
Some answered Hitler's call freely and some literally were forced to 'choose' between Nazism and death.
In the end there is no difference between the different fundamentalists; they all are convinced that they hold the truth and that they are doing the right thing for the majority of the people (read: their own faction).

Reason: spelling
It is whatever people morph it into for their own argument's sake.
Really, Christian fundamentalism should be exactly what it sounds like. Following the fundamentals of the Christian faith, as outlined in the Bible, and most specifically the new testament.
What the media and a lot of others are trying to do is make fundamentalism and extremism interchangeable terms when referring to Christianity or Islam. I think it is deceitful to do so.

That leaves very few doctrines. Many religions borrow tons of concepts and Christianity is no exception.
Universalists claim that their beliefs were the most common interpretation of Christianity in the ancient church, prior to the 6th century. The question then is who is a fundamentalist after all?
