16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Jamie, that scripture means exactly what is says. Thanks for posting it.
As for adding other teachings to it, it is written that if anyone abides not in the teachings of Christ, they have not God. Also we are admonishished to not add to or take away.
I trust Jesus Christ when he said, " Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words will not pass away."
Since God is no respector of persons, I do not think He left His word to only a select few.

What "scripture" was Paul referring to in this epistle?
Surely not the NT. It had not yet been compiled.
Was he referring to those books of the NT that never made it into the canon?
The Scripture is God's- breath, profitable, useful, that the purpose of the Scripture is to teach me true doctrine, to correct false doctrine, reproves immorality, and instructs me into a life of righteousness.
Believers are equipped for service when Scripture is known and applied in both personal life and church ministry.

Oh, one other thing that is VERY important to note. I believe that Paul is the author of those words and he could have ONLY been talking about what we know today as the Old Testament. So that's something else that might put another hole in the Sola Scriptura philosophy.
(Darn, Oakback beat me to it. Kudos, Oakback)
