Parable of the Vineyard Holder-What is the sigificance of this parable?

What does the vineyard represent ?

Who do the laborers represent ?

Why did the laborers who started near the end of the day get paid the same wage as the laborers who begun at the first of the day? What does this signify?

Most of Christ's parables are the same. Many called, few chosen.

IMO

Laborers = called of God to do his work of leading people into the kigndom of God

Vineryard = wherever the called of God do God's work in the world

First to start working =
  • many called but not chosen
  • pharisee types in the gospels
  • the elder son in the parable of the prodigal son
  • those who say "yes" but do not go in the parable of the two sons
  • those call Him "LORD LORD" but do not what he says
  • the 99 who need no repentence (so they think)
  • grumble when they find out they're not elite in God's eyes
Last to start working =
  • few chosen,
  • harlots & publicans in the gospels,
  • the prodigal son,
  • those who say "no" but then go in the story of the two sons
  • those who do what He says not just call Him LORD LORD,
  • the 1 lost sheep
Penny = entering the kingdom of God

Last shall be first, paid first = few chosen enter the kingdom of God first

First shall be last, paid last = many called not chosen enter the kingdom of God last

All receive the same wages because God is merciful and no one deserves the wages anyway.

Excellent breakdown. I agree 100%

Mmmmm ... the context pretty much tells us what it means ... go back to chapter 19 and read straight through .... it is a pretty plain contrast between the way of things in the kingdom of the world versus the condition in (as it states) the kingdom of heaven.
