Forced abortions. Mass sterilization. A “Planetary Regime” with the power of life and death over American citizens. The tyrannical fantasies of a madman? Or merely the opinions of the person now in control of science policy in the United States? Or both? These ideas (among many other equally horrifying recommendations) were put forth by John Holdren, whom Barack Obama has recently appointed Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, and Co-Chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology — informally known as the United States’ Science Czar. In a book Holdren co-authored in 1977, the man now firmly in control of science policy in this country wrote that:
John Holdren, Obama’s recent choice for “Science Czar,” provides the latest and perhaps most troubling example of extremism. In the name of population control, Holdren has advocated both forced abortion and compulsory sterilization through government-administered tainting of the water supply.
In a 1977 book he co-authored, called “Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment,” Holdren called for a “Planetary Regime” to enforce mandatory abortions for population control and limit the use of natural resources.
Holdren wrote: “There exists ample authority under which population growth could be regulated. It has been concluded that compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution if the population crisis became sufficiently severe to endanger the society.”

What his book actually recommended was that the best option for population control was "the use of milder methods of influencing family size preferences, such as access to birth control and abortion."
Forced abortion and sterilization were listed as extreme options, not realistic solutions.
Holdren testified to the Senate committee in 2009 that he does not believe that government should have a role in determining population size and stated that he has never endorsed forced sterilization.
Of course, I realize many of you consider any type of abortion as wrong, and birth control as against god's will.

More companies are now asking employees to take unpaid leave, more than ever in history including the great depression. The recent woeful news from the Jan-Mar US government figures did NOT include more than 1.4 million people wanted work and were not counted. These over 1.4 million were not counted because they had given up searching for work.
When one takes the FUDGE out of the government statistics we find that the total unemployed is above 17%, making the true US unemployed who want to work to be about 25 million. How could this happen when Washington has thrown trillions of dollars into the pot, including the famous $787 billion in stimulus spending that was supposed to yield $1.50 in growth for every dollar spent?
For a start, too much of the money went to transfer payments such as Medicaid, jobless benefits and the like that do nothing for jobs and growth. The spending that creates new jobs is new spending, particularly on infrastructure which amounts to less than 10% of the stimulus package today. Even Obama’s Vice President Biden said last week that the administration misread how bad the economy was and how effective the stimulus would be. It was supposed to be about jobs, but it wasn't.
