2009 Jeep Cherokee. Rocker arm failure caused $4,600.00 in damage. Car had only 45k miles and was always well maintained and never abused. Chrysler will not even give me a partial reimbursement or even a credit to apply to future repairs or purchase. Their excuse was that the car was out of warranty. Yes, I get that, however, with the advanced technology in manufacturing you would expect any car if properly treated to last longer than 45k miles. There are multiple complaints on the internet about this problem.

Not quality vehicles! Living on an old reputation for being durable during WWII.

I wouldn't get any jeep that doesn't offer the 4.0I6, the last non wrangler model I'd get is the Cherekee built after the xj.

The 3.7 and 4.7 motors have a history of puking rocker arms. There is a shade tree fix out there, just need to go to the right mechanic.

Was it the mileage or time that put it out of warranty?

I've never been a fan of their vehicles and will never own one.

The Jeep seems to have a cult like following.

A rocker arm failure is ridiculous. With modern CNC technology, how can one of those fail in a motor that isn't being used for high RPM?

Could of been out of adjustment or lashed incorrectly or weak spring and started floating. A weak stamping or flaw. There is a certain percentage of failure that's considered acceptable. Just sucks when it's your car that fails and they see it as acceptable.

Most likely time ran out since it's a 09. Puts it at 6 years old.

OP I would look through your paperwork. At that time Chrysler was offering 10/72 warranty on power train and for a while lifetime warranty for original owner. Maybe you'll get lucky.

Rocker arms are always under stress, even more so at any rpm above idle. Facotory rocker arms are probably stamped steel, and not those awesome billit ones you see in a Jegs.

I would be pretty disappointed.

Is the Jeep a pushrod motor? I don't know a thing about them, honestly.

One thing I'll give GM mucho credit for is that they've seemed to perfect the pushrod motor. Been used in every Corvette since the beginning with the exception of the LT5 and that was built by Mercury Marine.

They even have the pushrod motor at nearly 7k RPM which just maybe 15 years ago wasn't really thought of.

I always thought they had 7/70 for their powertrain warranty.
