My husband and I are moving to Cinci next month. I am originally from the Chicago area - he is from Singapore. He will be especially far from family and friends so it is important for us to make some connections quickly. Any suggestions?

I live in the Clifton part of Cincinnati and there is a decent Indian population running several restaurants, 5, 6, or 7 ???.

Clifton is centered at the intersection of Clifton & Ludlow Avenue, just NW of the University of Cincinnati and has a busy little shopping area and many great homes. Clifton is a very nice part of Cincinnati, equal to the Hyde Park section just not as big.

Why the need for Indians? Cincinnati is an American town full of Americans.

Being Black, I can certainly understand why you would want to connect with other Indian families, that being said. Not sure if you are looking for good schools, but there is a significant population in the Sycamore School district. The neigborhoods included in sycamore school district are : Montgomery, Blue Ash, Symmes Township.

Thanks for the input from all.

To CincyJim:
I am an American. My husband is not. Living, literally, half way around the world from all you have ever known is a tough thing to take without at least some hint of familiarity somewhere. We certainly plan to mix with Americans, but having some connection to people of ones origin can make the transition to a new life and culture much easier.

Thank you for the suggestions on school dictricts. We don't have kids at the moment but with any luck, we will have them soon, so it's something we are considering when looking into places to live.

I think there's a decent South Asian population in nearby Sharonville, Evendale, and Glendale, as well (which would be the Princeton School district). I grew up in Blue Ash, and had lots of South Asian friends--it was a great experience.

barns71; I've lived in various places in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Central America and NEVER found a need/desire to be amongst Americans, just amongst friendly people. The desired "friendly people" were in abundance wherever I've lived, even in the remote villages. Being amongst Americans was nice from a business angle but not as educational as being amongst "foreigners" as I learned a lot from the "foreigners" and quickly became friends with my new families and the kids. I've never lived in India, but I'd move anywhere in India IN A FLASH! IMO, India is a place of great history and fascinating people ('hot' chicks, too).

Jim
