I filled the tank a few weeks ago, and still haven't had the guts to look at the receipt.
The price was $3.59 ... Way high, but not the most I've paid.
I hope you guys are paying less than I am here in Philly! Pray for another warm winter!

According to online surveys and the federal online info, heating oil here in Ohio last week was running about $3.80. I'm seeing prices on the east coast actually less than Ohio, if you believe the online sources.

Wow, that seems high to me. Just this morning the Speedway near me is selling regular gas for $3.30. I would think gas requires a higher degree of refining than fuel oil and should be more expensive. At the same time diesel is more expensive than gas, why I don't know.

It is high, and the price hasn't come down correspondingly with gas prices as it has in the past. Today my supplier is selling at $3.53, and I paid $3.47 for gas on Saturday. I think diesel is still over $4. Why diesel has stayed so high, I dunno. In the past, heating oil has been priced at about 20 cents less per gallon than gasoline. That hasn't happened this season.

I've thought about doing what you said. I want to research that point about vehicle diesel fuel just to make sure there's nothing in it that would harm the burner, etc in my furnace.
Brill, it's just the way it is. There is only a loose correlation between vehicle diesel fuel, gasoline, and #2 heating oil. Prices roughly track each other in terms of trend line slope and peaks but a lot depends on spot demand for each specific fractional fuel. #2 oil might be easier to manufacture but if there's a huge demand for that distillate you're screwed.
