For anyone who missed it, here's a local news story (and never mind that it's the Kentucky edition)

Amazon testing delivery by drone, CEO Bezos says | NKY.com | cincinnati.com

In other words, imagine your pizza coming by drone. ...And, maybe some things not so tasty.

Frankly I don't think the drones are that smart. After a few deliveries dropped on the neighbor's head and the resulting lawsuits I think that will be the end of that.

It would be safer for pizza delivery, for one thing.

This is never going to happen. Drones will be far to expensive and far too vulnerable to everything from weather to birds of prey to kids with bats or people taking potshots...the delivery costs will be far in excess of what the vast majority will be willing to pay...and that will be the end of this story.

^ these things are my response, too. It's like replacing a city bus (FedEx truck) with a fleet of cabs (each one a drone) and saying that's more efficient.

The drone thing is Jeff Bezo's ego tripping at work and a bid to raise the stature of Amazon by leveraging a current news item - since the public is now fascinated with drones.

The FAA certainly doesn't like the idea.

As well they shouldn't. If the idea is actually attempted, I may have to break out my pellet gun and see how many I can bring down.

I dunno. Seriously, who could have foreseen Amazon becoming what it has except, well, Jeff Bezos? Lots of other thehnology seemed impossible at one time, too. He's really not somebody I'd choose to bet against. Plus, my mail service has become so undependable that any alternative, however far-fetched, seems quite appealing.

This was on 60 Minutes last weekend. Bezos said it's an eventuality and they are in talks with the FAA. I wouldn't completely write this off as something that will never happen.

Wait a minute. Are they talking about this being a replacement for mail delivery? I thought it was just Amazon packages.
